Special words of gratitude goes to Sharifa for allowing us to use her home as a venue for meeting the villagers, also to the villagers themselves as they welcomed me into their village. I will keep the website updated with news from the village as it arrives and the progress they are making. I visited the village a couple of times during my time in Malawi and the people there made me feel right at home with their warm welcoming nature but the real purpose of my visit was to help them establish a business plan so that they can work together to rebuild their lives, and I am confident that they will be able to do this as even before my visit they had already been discussing ways to use the funding and already had established a commitee that only needed a couple of ideas to improve it but as a whole they are well organized. Having visited the village I was overwhelmed to see how much damage was caused by the floods, however the people are resolved to overcoming this and many other obstacles like a shortage of maize (one of the staple foods of Malawi) and finances to work together to provide education for their children with the funding that we have been able to raise. Photos of the Christmas Dinner can be found in the photo gallery On behalf of the people of Chileka Village I would like to send Christmas Greetings to everyone who have played a part in their lives. I am so proud of the way he villagers have conducted themselves and how the children have changed long may it continue. The people of Chileka village have come a long way since the floods of January 2015 and its good to see how things can change when there are people who care, so with that being said I would like to thank all those who have played a vital and important role in assisting the villagers back onto their feet and their donations have been so supportive in buying food and school materials and other essentials. The children unfortunately did not have any party music this time due to the seemingly never ending power cuts in Malawi, however they spent time doing drama and reading poetry, which I am sure was just as beneficial for the children. I would like to thank the Co-ordinator in Chileka Village Sharifa Pinto for her hard work in sourcing and buying of the food and the school materials and for taking time in preparing the dinner for the children. They also received some gifts which was paid for by some kind and caring people in the UK with much needed items consisting of school books and pencils which will go a long way in their education.
